About the event
During the Ukrainian Spring Festival we warmly invite you to join a special workshop dedicated to pysanky, the traditional Ukrainian art of decorating eggs.
The tradition of decorating pysanky is very ancient. It existed long before Christianity came to the lands of Ukraine and was connected with the celebration of spring and the renewal of life. Over centuries this tradition became part of Easter celebrations, but its roots go much deeper into ancient culture.
In Ukrainian tradition, pysanky are considered symbols of protection, good fortune, and hope for the coming year. They were often given as gifts to family members and friends as tokens of goodwill and blessings.
Each ornament and symbol drawn on the egg carries a special meaning. These ancient symbols may represent wishes for long life, health, prosperity, fertility, family continuity, good harvest, and happiness. Through colors and patterns people expressed their hopes for the year ahead.
During this workshop participants will learn about the history and symbolism of pysanky and will create their own decorated egg using traditional techniques.
Even if you have never tried this before, you are warmly welcome to join.
