About the event
During the Ukrainian Spring Festival, we invite you to discover vytynanky, one of the most elegant forms of Ukrainian folk decorative art.
Vytynanky are traditional decorative paper-cut compositions created by carefully cutting intricate ornaments from folded paper. This art form has been practiced in Ukraine for centuries and was widely used to decorate homes, windows, and festive interiors. The designs often include symbols of nature, animals, the sun, trees, and protective motifs, each carrying its own meaning and blessing.
For this workshop, a special design has been created by the Ukrainian master of vytynanky, Lidia Solodar, who currently lives and works in Ukraine. Her works will also be exhibited during the festival.
The design prepared for participants will feature a horse, a traditional symbol of strength, movement, vitality, and good fortune. In Ukrainian folk symbolism, the horse is often seen as a protective talisman for the year, bringing energy and positive transformation.
During the workshop, participants will learn about the history and symbolism of vytynanky and will create their own decorative paper-cut artwork inspired by Ukrainian traditions.
