Creating the Symbol of Ukraine – Pysanka
24/11/24 21:00
The Embassy of Ukraine in Japan, Ukraine House Japan, and the Chernivtsi City Council jointly hosted an event, “Creating the Symbol of Ukraine – Pysanka,” uniting Ukrainian and Japanese artists to celebrate and promote the art of pysanka.

Opportunities for collaboration often arise unexpectedly, opening new horizons.
Just last week, Ms. Natalya Volos reached out to Embassy of Ukraine in Japan for the first time, and yesterday, we jointly hosted a unique online event titled “Creating the Symbol of Ukraine – Pysanka”, connecting Chernivtsi and Tokyo.
The event was organized at the initiative of the Chernivtsi City Council and Ms. Natalya Volos, with the support of the Embassy of Ukraine in Japan and Ukraine House Japan.
The event was opened by Mr. Oleksandr Semenyuk, Minister-Counselor of the Embassy of Ukraine in Japan, who expressed gratitude to the Japanese people and the Government of Japan for their support during challenging times. He also extended thanks to the representatives of the Chernivtsi City Council for their important cultural initiative that strengthens the bonds between Ukrainians and Japanese people. Mr. Yuriy Lesyuk, Deputy Mayor of Chernivtsi, addressed the participants in Tokyo, wished everyone good health, and expressed gratitude for supporting the pysanka tradition in Japan.
For three hours, participants created pysankas inspired by motifs from the book “Pysankas of Our Grandmothers”, dedicated to Bukovinian pysanka artists.
The event featured prominent pysanka artists from Chernivtsi:
Ms. Natalia Surudzhi
Ms. Svitlana Krasovska
Ms. Vita Dobrovolska
Students of the “Tryhver” studio from the Chernivtsi Professional College of Business and Food Technologies
From Japan, the event was attended by representatives of Ukraine House Japan and talented Japanese pysanka artists:
Ms. Ikuko Sekine
Ms. Miwako Aizawa
Ms. Toshimi Seno
Ms. Kaori Tsukagoshi
Ms. Noriko Fujimura
Ms. Mika Nakano
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who participated in this extraordinary event. Your contribution to supporting and promoting pysanka art is invaluable!
