December 14 — Charity Day in Ukraine
14/12/25, 03:00
In Ukraine, Charity Day is observed on the second Sunday of December.

It was established by Presidential Decree on December 13, 2007, to affirm the principles of humanism and compassion, to encourage the development of charitable activity, and to support the initiatives of civil society organizations. Each year, this day serves as a reminder of the power of voluntary help and active civic engagement.
Charity has a long tradition in Ukraine, but since February 24, 2022, following the start of Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine, it has become part of everyday life for nearly every Ukrainian. Donations are raised to support the armed forces, purchase equipment and vehicles, and provide protective gear. A vital focus has also been medical rehabilitation, prosthetics, and psychological support for both military personnel and civilians. Contributions are made voluntarily through charitable foundations, volunteer initiatives, and local community fundraisers.
According to the World Giving Index 2025, Ukraine ranked second in the world among 142 countries, scoring 62 points across three indicators: the number of donors and charitable organizations, the share of people who give to strangers, and the number of volunteers—those who give their time. In the same ranking, Japan reflects a different model of philanthropy, one rooted in institutional support, foundations, and long-term assistance programs.
This is how Japanese support for Ukraine is expressed today. Charitable organizations and the Ukrainian diaspora organize concerts, auctions, markets, and cultural events. The funds raised are directed toward medical programs, rehabilitation for the wounded, assistance to Ukrainian families, and educational initiatives for children.
We are grateful for every charitable contribution—through donations, time, participation, and a sense of responsibility. It is these actions that create collective strength and sustain humanity in our everyday choices.
