Europe Day
09/05/26, 03:00
May 9 symbolizes the birth of a new European idea founded on peace and solidarity after centuries of destructive conflicts.

The history of this day began in 1950 with the Schuman Declaration, which proposed uniting the resources of European states in order to make future wars impossible. After decades of confrontation, especially following the end of the Second World War, this vision laid the foundation for stable development and cooperation across the continent.
Ukraine, with an area of 603,628 square kilometers, holds a strategic geographical position, serving as a link between different parts of Europe. Its natural resources and fertile lands form an important part of the region’s economic potential. Ukrainians are the heirs of the ancient culture of the Kyiv State, which was already an active participant in European political life during the Middle Ages. The Ukrainian language belongs to the Indo-European language family, while the Cyrillic alphabet reflects centuries of connection with Byzantine and broader European Christian traditions.
Since 2014, Ukraine’s role in Europe has gained critical importance due to the need to defend its territorial integrity. The full-scale invasion launched by russia on February 24, 2022 transformed Ukraine into the de facto defensive shield of the continent. Ukrainian soldiers are holding back aggression that threatens not only national borders, but also the foundations of international security. This allows other European countries to preserve peace and stability.
Beyond its military role, Ukraine remains one of the key contributors to global food security, supplying agricultural products to many countries around the world. The resilience of Ukrainian society today is influencing Europe’s rethinking of its own approaches to security, unity, and responsibility. The shared path of Ukraine and the European community is based on the understanding that the strength of the democratic world is defined by the ability to face challenges together and to protect human life as the highest value.
