Motanka — The Soul of Tradition: Workshop at the Museum

10/05/25, 03:00

In a warm and intimate atmosphere at FAM, participants created more than just dolls — they crafted symbols of memory, unity, and cultural strength.

A symbolic and heartfelt motanka doll workshop was held in the cozy setting of the Tokyo Fuji Art Museum (FAM), led by Ms. Iryna Vetrova.
For many participants, this was their first encounter with the motanka — not merely a folk toy, but a protective charm that carries the energy of generations.
During the workshop, Ms. Iryna explained the different types of motankas, their history, the meaning of colors, and the traditional techniques used to make them.
The event brought together people of all ages and nationalities. Together, we didn’t just make dolls — we shaped symbols of warmth, remembrance, and the unity that Ukrainian culture always carries with it.
We sincerely thank Ms. Iryna for her inspiration and skill,
Tokyo Fuji Art Museum for offering a space that preserves meaning,
and every participant for their presence, sincerity, and love for tradition.
